Privacy Policy
Effective 5 September 2026
What stays on your device
Your game progress — words, decks, coins, levels, campaign stars — is stored locally on your device. It is not uploaded to us and is deleted when you delete the app.
What we collect and why
- Crash reports. If the app crashes, a diagnostic report (device model, OS version, and the technical error) is sent via Sentry and Firebase Crashlytics so we can fix the bug. These reports do not identify you personally.
- Anonymous gameplay statistics. Events such as “a match started” or “a pack was purchased” are sent via Firebase Analytics to help us balance and improve the game. They are not tied to your name or email, and we do not collect precise location.
- Purchases and subscription. Payments — for word packs (one-time purchases) and for the WordFighter Premium subscription — are processed entirely by Apple (App Store) or Google (Google Play), depending on where you got the app. Our purchase partner RevenueCat validates receipts and tells the app whether your subscription is active, using anonymized identifiers; we never see your payment details or Apple ID / Google account credentials.
- Online multiplayer (optional). If you play online, the display name you choose and your match moves are relayed between players via Google Firebase, using an anonymous account ID. When an online match is settled, your display name, the avatar you were wearing and your win/loss record are also published to a public ranking board that every player can see. You can play the entire game without ever going online.
Microphone and speech
Some word cards are answered by saying the word aloud. The first time you tap one, the app asks for microphone and speech-recognition permission.
- The microphone is open only while you are speaking a word, and only on those cards.
- Speech is recognized by your device’s own operating-system service (Apple or Google), which may process it on the device or on that company’s servers, under that company’s privacy policy.
- We never record, store or transmit your voice, and no audio ever reaches our services.
- You can decline the permission, or revoke it later in your device settings. A card you cannot answer aloud simply goes unanswered — nothing else in the game needs the microphone.
Names, blocking and reporting
Your display name is the only thing you write that other players can see. There is no chat, no messaging, and no image or file sharing.
- Filtering. A name is checked against our banned-word lists in all nine supported languages before it can be used, and again before it is sent or displayed, so a rejected name never reaches another player.
- Blocking another player is stored only on your own device and is never sent to us.
- Reporting a player sends us their anonymous account ID, the display name they were using at that moment, the reason you picked and the time — together with your own anonymous account ID, so we can follow up. Reports are visible only to us, are never shown to the person reported, and are kept only as long as we need them to act.
Children
Battlingo is suitable for a general audience. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children; the app requires no account, and purchases sit behind a parent gate in addition to the store’s own purchase protections.
Third-party services
These providers process the data above on our behalf, under their own privacy policies: Apple and Google Play (payments), Google Firebase (analytics, crash reporting, online relay), Sentry (crash reporting), and RevenueCat (purchase validation).
Retention and your rights
Crash and analytics data are kept only as long as needed for the purposes above. If you have used online mode and want your display name and match records removed, email us and we will delete them.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted at this address with a new effective date.
